Abuse of children on the Internet, parents are best prevented
My good friend Dmitry Bestuzhev ( @ dimitribest ), Kaspersky security researcher called my attention to a post on LinkedIn on child abuse in the Internet. He made reference to an article that says there are 15 million children in situation of vulnerability in the Internet, only in the country of Mexico.
The truth is that the figures are alarming, and beyond the millions, there is a shocking reality: our children are at risk.
Like removing access to the Internet to our children is not an option, failing to convert them into modern digital hermits, most parents I know, choose one of two places: to free access or restrict access schedules taxes and using security software. While I think it’s latest approach is to implement mandatory, there is a resource that I trust more: my own daughter.
As a parent I have found the most common forms of extortion. Begin to achieve a picture of the children, then they achieve a slightly embarrassing picture and begin to threaten to show the photos to parents. The children give in to blackmail and begins a vicious spiral, until you get almost complete control of children. The key here is to break the cycle from the start, letting the child know the dangers out there, explaining that they should not bow to pressure and their parents should report any attempt at extortion. Some of the worst pedophiles use even Trojans that allow them to take control of the chambers of the PC, making it a good idea to keep them covered, and explain to children the importance of not open files sent by those unknown.
Is a danger that we can not completely avoided, but warned the boys to time, we can keep the damage is severe. So when we talk to our children about the dangers on the net,
